Fruiting body formation by Chondromyces apiculatus.

After the vegetative cells have aggregated, they pile up in a mass which then becomes elevated by the formation of a stalk. The mass of cells atop the stalk eventually differentiates into a series of sporangioles, each of which is a sac of resting cells. The process takes about 12 hours in real time.
